The Terry's Home
Residential Interior Design
July 2025
This Newport Beach home is especially meaningful to us, as we built it in 2001 when our three children were all under the age of six. What began as a need for more space soon turned into a complete rebuild. I worked closely with our architect and home builder as we designed and constructed the home from the ground up.
Our original 1950s cottage was torn down and replaced with a new family home. My vision centered on timeless elements: bleached walnut hardwood floors, white tongue-and-groove coffered ceilings, custom Shaker cabinetry with glass knobs, and a butcher block–topped kitchen island that remains the heart of the home.
At the time, it was also the first residence in Newport Beach to feature a standing seam metal roof—a detail I fell in love with after scouring the pages of Coastal Living magazines. It was an innovative choice then, but today it has become a defining architectural element in many coastal homes, along with our awning shutters.
Now, more than 20 years later, the home continues to stand the test of time. The furnishings have naturally evolved, blending antique treasures I’ve collected with fresh upholstery and unique fabrics to create an eclectic yet balanced style. Much of the artwork throughout the home consists of my own paintings, adding a personal and creative touch.
